Data Centre Guidelines

Welcome to our data centre! The security of the equipment and data in our data centres is of critical importance to the daily functioning of our customers’ operations. By entering this facility, you agree to “Digital Parks Africa’s (DPA’s) General Terms & Conditions of Service” and acknowledge that your information will only be used in accordance with “DPA’s Privacy Policy”.

Samrand Data Centre Rules

For your own safety and to ensure the safety, security, and smooth operation of our facilities, we kindly ask all employees and visitors to adhere to the following policies:

  • No littering or mixing of general and hazardous waste is allowed on site.
  • No ID—no access to the site.
  • Visitor badges must be worn and visible at all times.
  • No unauthorised photos or videos.
  • Use of tobacco products, electronic cigarettes and smokeless tobacco devices are permitted in designated areas only.
  • No food or drink is permitted in the data centre production or critical environmental areas.
  • No weapons are allowed on site.
  • No illegal substances or alcohol allowed on site.
  • Waste shall be disposed of in accordance with DPA Waste Management Programmes.

1. Access Control

  • Only authorised customers and personnel are permitted to enter the premises. Every visitor must complete and submit the access request prior to visiting the data centre.
  • All visitors must register at the reception desk upon entering the data centre premises and notify them when leaving. Access badges must be clearly visible at all times.
  • Access to locations other than the assigned data hall(s) and/or room(s) is prohibited, unless accompanied by authorised staff.

2. Security and Surveillance

Please be aware that CCTV surveillance cameras are in operation throughout the facility 24/7. Unauthorised access attempts are strictly prohibited and may result in access being revoked.

3. Photography and Filming

It is prohibited to take photographs or to use any filming device. If pictures are taken or film is shot without authorised approval, the security staff has the right to remove the material from the device.

4. Cleanliness and Organisation

  • No food or drinks are allowed inside the data hall to maintain cleanliness and prevent contamination.
  • Waste shall be disposed of according to DPA Waste Management Programmes.
  • Keep the premises and the area where you are conducting work clean, tidy and free from clutter to minimise the risk of accidents or damage to equipment. Do not leave any material such as tie-wraps, bolts, cage nuts, cable binders, and so forth behind when you are finished working.
  • Request a dustbin at reception if you will be working in that area for a prolonged period.
  • Ensure no tie-wraps, bolts, cage nuts, or cable binders fall into the floor void through the air grills/vents. If some accidentally do, please request cleanup at reception.

5. Physical Safety

  • No firearms, weapons, or combustibles of any kind are permitted within the DC.
  • Smoking is prohibited in the Data Hall. Any person who fails to comply with this notice shall be prosecuted and may be liable to a fine.
  • Keep all walkways and emergency exits clear at all times.
  • Keep all doors, both inside and outside the DC, closed at all times. This ensures that the fire extinguishing and cooling installations operate efficiently, and the data centre is secure.
  • Evacuate immediately when the alarm goes off. In case of a fire alarm, the fire extinguishing system could activate.

6. Power Management

Conserve energy by turning off equipment when not in use, where appropriate. Report any power-related issues or concerns to facility management promptly. No standard plastic multi-plugs for 3-pin and 2-pin outlets are allowed to be deployed in the cabinets, as these are a fire risk to the DC. We can provide power strips which are metal-clad with built-in discrimination and rack-mountable.

7. Cable Management

Avoid disrupting or interfering with cable arrangements and connections. Notify facility management of any damaged or improperly routed cables.

8. Equipment Maintenance

DPA follows strict change management processes. Refrain from modifying or tampering with any hardware or software without proper authorisation. Do not operate any equipment that may constitute a safety hazard. If in doubt, please consult our facility manager.

9. Incident Response

Report any security incidents or suspicious activities to the facility manager or security immediately. Cooperate with security personnel during investigations as needed.

10. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity

Familiarise yourself with emergency evacuation procedures and assembly points. Follow instructions from facility staff during drills or actual emergencies.

11. Data Handling

Respect the sensitivity of the data stored within the facility. Avoid tampering with or accessing data beyond your authorised permissions.
